During the reign of the 5th Dynasty kings, officials engraved the walls of their tombs with descriptions of the most interesting and memorable events of their lives. An official named Rawer told us a story of how, during a religious ceremony, he accidentally bumped into a king's staff and was sure that the gods would punish him. However, the king pardoned the careless official!
Tijdens het bewind van de koningen van de V dynastie lieten hovelingen op de wanden van hun graftomben de meest interessante en gedenkwaardige gebeurtenissen uit hun leven uithouwen. Zo vertelde hoveling Rawer ons hoe hij tijdens een religieuze ceremonie per ongeluk tegen de koninklijke staf stootte en ervan overtuigd was dat de goden hem zouden straffen. Egyptians began working with hard stone very early in their history. They made it into ceremonial utensils, stelae and statues. The earliest major examples of Egyptian stoneworking include three magnificent four-meter high statues of the god Min from the town of Coptos. Min was worshiped as a creator-god and a lord of the Eastern Desert.
